Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Opens its 99th Season with Music Inspired by Visual Art

The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Julian Kuerti open the 99th concert season with music inspired by pictures. Guest violinist Leticia Moreno joins the orchestra for this season premiere at Western Michigan University’s Miller Auditorium on September 20, at 8 p.m.

KALAMAZOO, Mich., Nov. 14, 2018 – On Saturday, November 17, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra continues its exploration of fifth symphonies with the “Symphony No. 5 in E-flat Major, Op. 82,” by Jean Sibelius. To conclude the concert, Russian-American cellist Nina Kotova joins the orchestra for Antonín Dvořák’s “Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104.”

Kalamazoo, MI May 2, 2018 - The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, with guest conductor Julian Kuerti, close the 2017-18 symphonic season with the music of Beethoven and Prokofiev. The Eroica Trio, the most sought-after trio in the world, perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto. After intermission, Maestro Kuerti conducts Prokofiev's thrilling Symphony No. 5. The American premiere of this symphony was so popular, a portrait of Prokofiev was featured on the cover of Timemagazine in November 1945.

KSO Welcomes Third Music Director Candidate, Andrew Grams & Award-winning Cellist, Pablo Ferrández-Castro for Haydn & Beethoven program February 24th at Chenery

Kalamazoo MI, February 8, 2018 - The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor and Music Director Candidate, Andrew Grams, present an intimate program of masterworks from the First Viennese School (Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven). The orchestra opens with Mozart’s Magic Flute Overture. Pablo Ferrández-Castro, an international rising star, performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C Major. Maestro Grams concludes the program with Beethoven's exhilarating Symphony No. 7.
