Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Begins its 98th Season with New Music Director at the Helm; Award-Winning Pianist Di Wu Joins for Ravel Piano Concerto at Miller Auditorium

KALAMAZOO, Mich., Sept. 10, 2018 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (KSO) launches its 2018-19 season when its newly installed music director, Julian Kuerti, leads Van Cliburn Competition-winning pianist Di Wu and the KSO on groundbreaking French and French-inspired music by Frédéric Devreese, Maurice Ravel, and Hector Berlioz on Friday, September 14, at 8 p.m., at Miller Auditorium in Kalamazoo.

Kalamazoo, MI October 27, 2017 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, with guest conductor & Music Director Candidate, Edwin Outwater, presents a program of symphonic masterpieces by Brahms and Rachmaninoff. Anna Vinnitskaya, winner of the 2007 Queen Elisabeth Contest, solos with Rachmaninoff’s brilliant Piano Concerto No. 3—a piece ideally suited to her interpretive gifts. Maestro Outwater rounds out the program with Brahms pastoral Symphony No. 2.

KALAMAZOO, MI   January 24, 2017 - The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Raymond Harvey, presents Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6. Regarded by many critics to be one of the greatest symphonists of all time, Gustav Mahler expresses the vast range of human emotions. Composed in 1903-1904, his sixth symphony is sometimes referred to as the "Tragic." The work calls for a vast orchestra, drawing on the power of extra winds, brass, and percussion--most notably a giant hammer.

KSO features Emmanuel Ceysson in November 18th Concert at Chenery Auditorium

Kalamazoo, MI November 4, 2016 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Music Director Raymond Harvey, presents internationally renowned Principal harpist of the Metropolitan Opera House, Emmanuel Ceysson, for the third concert of its 2016-17 Symphonic Series. Billed the "enfant terrible" of the harp, Ceysson's virtuosity and infectious enthusiasm will be on full display in Glière's Harp Concerto.
 
Maestro Harvey rounds out the program with the music of Pulitzer Prize winning composer John Corigliano and Felix Mendelssohn. Corigliano's Voyage from 1978 is a string orchestra setting of Baudelaire's "L'invitation au voyage." Felix Mendelssohn wrote his Symphony No. 3 "Scottish" after a walking tour of Scotland.

Kalamazoo, MI September 7, 2016 – The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its Music Director Raymond Harvey, will open their 96th season with a program featuring Schelle, Hindemith and Tchaikovsky.
 
Internationally renowned, and Grammy Award-winning, pianist Yefim Bronfman will be performing Tchaikovsky’s 2nd Piano Concerto. Bronfman is recognized as one of today’s most acclaimed pianists; his commanding technique, power, and exceptional lyrical gifts will be on full display in Tchaikovsky’s second piano concerto. Mr. Bronfman was also a guest artist for the 2016 Gilmore Keyboard Festival.
