Kalamazoo Kids in Tune will present a short concert followed by an instrument petting zoo at 2 p.m., with a repeat performance and petting zoo at 2:30 p.m. Kalamazoo Kids in Tune (KKIT) is the youngest symphony orchestra in the state of Michigan. KKIT is offered as an afterschool music program for students at Woods Lake Elementary and Milwood Magnet School. The program is a collaboration of the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Communities in Schools of Kalamazoo, and Kalamazoo Public Schools. The program serves 2nd through 8th grade students. Each student selects an orchestra instrument for long-term study and participates four days per week in group lessons and orchestra rehearsals. The KKIT orchestra performs throughout the community, and middle school members enjoy providing "instrument petting zoos" to aspiring younger musicians at community events.
