Your Award-Winning Orchestra
Over the past decade, the KSO earned awards and accolades from near and far. The honors not only spotlight the orchestra, they also illuminate the excellence of the Greater Kalamazoo community to the entire nation.
Some notable honors include:
2008 MetLife Award for Arts Access
Awarded in recognition of the KSO's innovative approach and strong community partnerships evidenced in their Rural Community Partnerships program. The award also promotes the KSO's program as a model for other arts organizations across the country.
2007 Music Alive Meet the Composer/League of American Orchestras Award
Awarded in recognition of the KSO's commitment to contemporary music and the development of American composers. In recent years, the KSO participated in commissioning four new works and performed 20 contemporary American works.
2003 League of American Orchestras Silver Award for a KSO Education program
Awarded in recognition of the KSOL's highly creative and successful commitment to the Instrument Petting Zoo.
2000 Ford Foundation leadership grant
Awarded as a challenge grant for the innovative Artists in Residence program which today employs eight musicians and resources much of our education programming.
